DC entrepreneurs tell us all the time – layers upon layers of fees, regulations, and requirements have made it expensive and difficult to do business in the District of Columbia. Take DC’s restaurant industry, as one example. In 2025, at least 92 restaurants closed their doors – 26% higher than the year before, according to the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. Streamlining regulations, modernizing laws, and lowering costs will help DC entrepreneurs serve our community, pursue their dreams, and create wealth-building opportunities for their families.
Opportunity DC envisions a local business climate that is equally attractive to global corporations, innovative entrepreneurs, and mom-and-pop shops. Such a vibrant, diverse economy will generate the resources necessary to sustainably fund core public services and a safety net that supports residents in need.

“As a Washingtonian and tech founder, I know how difficult it is to access funding for minority-owned businesses. Opportunity DC champions the targeted investments and public-private partnerships that allow homegrown talent to power the District’s economy. They are making sure that DC is a place where businesses of all kinds can thrive.”
